  • Newsletter design & implementation that led to a 20% increase in employee internal survey engagement.

✦ MY ROLE

Visual & Web Designer

As the sole Visual & Web Designer, my tasks included a myriad of Web design projects for the organization that called for UX, UI, Motion & Graphic design skills, resulting in higher web traffic for newly-designed pages, reduced bounce rates for page redesigns, and less friction in the overall user experience throughout the website.

My contribution to this company included leading a myriad of internal and external across the organization, including but not limited to website design and management, marketing campaigns, product design, social media brand boost, microsite design and implementation, and newsletter creation.

Due to confidentiality agreements, I'm unable to provide the full details of this project. For more information about my work at GeoComply not stated here, please contact me directly.

✦ UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

How am I going to tackle this?

Tackling design problems at GeoComply was not easy. Working in a highly regulated industry meant that I had to work around many limitations and little room for creativity.

In these instances, I found it challenging yet highly rewarding to find different creative design approaches that would meet all legal regulations. However, these limitations also forged the path to creating more innovative designs.

My design approach always started with leading internal meetings with different stakeholders to understand the challenges, pain points, and desired outcomes.

Some of the projects I got to work on during my time at GeoComply were:

  • Trust Center web portal

  • GChallenge microsite design

  • Design of product pages

  • Internal & external newsletters design and launch

  • Job listing portal design

With such a diverse pool of users, working around a design solution that would satisfy every user took time and effort. With this in mind, my design approach prioritized four main focus areas:

Accessibility, Scalability, Consistency, Inclusivity

✦ THE SOLUTION

How did I solve the issue?

To solve many of the problems that GeoComply faced, I wanted to design solutions that would solve internal needs and factual issues that users encountered. The website was crucial during the A to B process for lead gains. It was essential to prioritize the user experience in every corner of this digital space to communicate our value proposition to our users, inform valuable industry information, cater to new audiences, and solidify our positioning as industry leaders.

From designing portals to microsites, product campaigns, video pages, and many more event pages, I was able to design around the needs and wants of stakeholders and users. I always intended to strive for a design that would deliver a solution to our users while considering the business needs.

Takeaways ➶

  • Working with many limitations comes with many challenges. My role as a designer is to research, iterate, and test designs in order to reach a common ground that satisfies both users and business’ needs.

While limitations can feel hindering at times, I take them as a great opportunity to innovate and test new ideas that have never been implemented before.

  • Although I was lucky to be part of the Marketing team, my role was intertwined with many projects the Product design team was working on.

My time here has helped me understand how both teams are crucial to one another. For Marketing, understanding the product is crucial to designing better solutions to promote the company’s values and offerings to the world. For Product, understanding how to communicate the brand and voice in products is essential as well to create more cohesiveness across the entire brand.

Working cross-functionally allowed me to understand the needs of different teams, allowing me to make better design decisions that benefit our business and, more importantly, our users.
